The Down Syndrome Association of WI – Children of the Heart – Greater La Crosse Area is proud to serve as a resource to families in La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon, Juneau, and Adams Counties in Wisconsin. Due to our close proximity to our neighboring states, we also provide resources to families in Southeast Minnesota and Northeast Iowa.

Our vision is that we all understand the value of those with Down syndrome in our lives and our communities. We continually strive toward full acceptance, full access, full life and full potential.

DSAW-COTH-GLA is here to support families, not judge. We support and advocate for children and adults in a wide age range. We are respectful of the choices families are making based on the phase of life they are currently in.

DSAW-COTH-GLA is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization under the umbrella of Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin. Donations are tax-deductable and will be used in the greater LaCrosse area.

This summer, 17 individuals with disabilities, ages 8-19 years, attended

a one week bike camp for 75 minutes/day. At the end of the week, 11

were riding bicycles independently and the other six were well on their

way.

Congrats to all involved and we'll see you next summer!

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, DSAW-COTH-GLA was able to send 49 parents, educators, and therapists to the 2014 Regional Conference hosted by the Down Syndrome Association of MN. We received many positive comments from the attendees.

"Thank you for funding this for our members.I think it was especially motivating to learn alongside other members of our group. It made everything seem less overwhelming and more empowering."

"It was very inspiring to gain new ideas to help our children and it was very exciting to to realize how many people are learning alongside you."

We plan to offer educational opportunities for parents and school staff on a regular basis. Working together, we can help people with Down syndrome reach their full potential.

World Down Syndrome Day - 3/21/14

3/21 was chosen as World Down Syndrome Day to represent the 3 copies of chromosome 21 that is unique to people with Down syndrome (typically, people have 2 copies of each chromosome).

Thanks for everyone who came out to support us at Chuck E Cheese on World Down Syndrome Day! We had over 400 people attend & raised $545.00. Coupled with the money raised from t-shirt sales, $1813 will be put towards out speech initiative!

Check out footage from this feature story on member Jenny Levondoski and her daughter, Eliza.
