The Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin and Jacob's Fund are working in partnership on behalf of all special children, their families and communities, to educate, empower, strengthen and support wherever there is a need.
JACOB'S FUND MISSION STATEMENT
The Jacob's Fund Mission is to protect children with special needs that make them societies most vulnerable. The fund will accomplish this mission through education, mentoring, advocacy, dissemination of resource information and by raising public awareness. Jacob's Fund is for all special people regardless of race, color, ethnicity creed or gender. Jacob's Fund will give voices to the voiceless, power to the powerless and help to the helpless. All children have value beyond measure.
JACOB'S FUND GOALS
1. Provide educational opportunities for parents with special needs children on issues of:
Safety
Rights and responsibilities
Signs and Symptoms of abuse
Prevention of Abuse
2. Mentoring of parents* to empower them to speak for their children with knowledge and certainty.
3. Advocate for children with special needs and parents*of children with special needs in regards to issues of:
Legal rights
Educational rights
Health Care access
Entitlements
4. Dissemination of resource information through partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin (DSAW).
5. Raising public awareness regarding current issues surrounding accommodation or lack thereof, for children with special needs in our legislative system. To alert the public to safety needs regarding our most at risk population i.e. children with special needs:
cameras on school buses
aides on school buses
mandatory nationwide background checks (including fingerprinting) for bus drivers yearly.
Release of bus driver's name to parents.*
tape or video recording of at risk special needs children by parents* in all circumstances.
encourage all to work with legislators on stiffer sentences for child abuse.
work with legislators to change laws to be less strict on what abuse is.
