Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin Member Grant/Scholarship Program

The Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin Member Grant Program provides financial support for members of DSAW to help offset the cost of conferences, training events or other educational programs.  Additionally, the fund is available to assist in helping offset some of the cost of a service or item that can benefit the quality of life and development of a person with Down syndrome.

buddy-walk-04-118.jpgEach month up to two grants can be awarded.  Each grant is limited to a maximum of up to $250.00 and an individual may receive a maximum of two grants per calendar year.

There will be times when the DSAW Member Grant Program cannot meet all submitted requests.  In these situations, approval for the funds will be made using the following criteria:

  • First time users of the fund.
  • There is an educational benefit to the request
  • The grant will assist in the personal development of the person with Down syndrome
  • The request has direct benefits to the person with Down syndrome
  • There are no other resources available to meet the need
  • Grant applications will be considered in the order of receipt

A change in policy now allows grant requests to be approved within one week by DSAW's Executive Director based on availability.  Additional processing days are appreciated. You may follow your grant request with a phone call to DSAW's Executive Director, (414) 327-3729 if there is an urgency to your request. Under no circumstances will verbal approvals be given.  You may apply online. (Click here for Grant Application).  You may also print out the application (PDF) and either mail or fax it to:

The DSAW Member Grant Program must reimburse for actual expenses. However, a change in policy now allows a check to be issued to a vendor within one week of approval by DSAW's Executive Director associated with submission of a written bill, invoice or quote. Under no circumstances will checks issued prior to the event be issued to the applicant. They must be issued to the vendor AND sent using US Mail. Additional processing days are appreciated. Reimbursement to the member is also allowed for actual expenses if prior written approval is obtained and you submit original receipts with your claim form within four weeks after completing the event or purchase.

When you are approved for an award, a confirmation letter and claim form will be sent to you via either email or US Mail. Included in the letter will be the details on how you will be reimbursed for your approved expenses.  Alternatively, payment can be made directly to the vendor via US Mail for the approved purchase or prior to the approved event.

Who can apply for the grant?
