From active adventures and creative activities to special outings and meaningful support opportunities, each chapter created memorable experiences for the individuals and families we serve.

Fox Cities

DSAW Fox Cities – May Recap

May was full of creativity, fun, and time spent together with our DSAW Fox Cities families!

We kicked off the month with our Flower Pot Planting & Decorating event, where families got creative designing flower pots and planting flowers to take home. It was wonderful to see everyone’s unique creations come to life.

We also spent an evening at Xtreme Air, enjoying lots of jumping, playing, and laughter with friends.

To wrap up the month, families headed to Super Bowl Bowling for some friendly competition, plenty of cheers, and a whole lot of fun on the lanes.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this month. We love creating opportunities for families to connect, make memories, and enjoy time together. 💙

Greater La Crosse Area

La Crosse May Recap:

We had a busy month in May! We gathered at La Crosse and Prairie du Chien Pizza Ranch locations for a few fun-filled nights of fundraising while eating pizza! We also had our first summer picnic at Eckhart Park (also known as Dragon Park!) in Viroqua. The weather has been just perfect for getting together with our favorite people!

Fun Fit Friday with Grit920 – May 1

We kicked off the month with a fantastic Fun Fit Friday at Grit920. Participants enjoyed an evening of movement, fitness, and fun while building confidence and healthy habits. Thank you to the team at Grit920 for creating an inclusive and encouraging environment for everyone who attended.

Sign-N-Play Spring Session

Throughout May, families gathered for our Sign-N-Play classes, led by Jenny at Hand-N-Hand. Over four Tuesday evenings, participants learned signs, practiced communication skills, and enjoyed interactive activities together. These sessions provided a wonderful opportunity for families to connect while supporting language development in a fun and engaging way.

Caregiver Workshop – May 16

DSAW was honored to participate in a Caregiver Workshop hosted by Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Caregivers gathered for a morning focused on practical strategies, encouragement, and self-care. The workshop provided valuable resources, meaningful conversations, new support connections, and a reminder that caregivers are not alone in their journey. Thank you to Emmanuel Lutheran Church for welcoming DSAW and creating a space where caregivers could feel supported and empowered.

Flag Football with FRC – May 21

DSAW partnered with FRC for an exciting evening of flag football. Participants enjoyed learning new skills, being active, and spending time with friends on the field. Events like these help build confidence, teamwork, and lasting friendships. Thank you to FRC for making this opportunity possible.

Celebrate De Pere Fundraiser – May 24

On May 24, DSAW volunteers helped work the admission gate at Celebrate De Pere as a community fundraising opportunity. We are grateful to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to represent DSAW and support our mission. Events like these help raise awareness while generating funds that allow us to continue providing programs, services, and events for individuals with Down syndrome and their families throughout Northeast Wisconsin.

Thank you to all of our families, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who helped make May such a successful month. We look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming summer events!

South Central

South Central had an amazing and activity-filled May! We kicked off the month with crafts at Curious Crafter, sushi with the Moms Take 5 group, and a SibShop gathering. Families enjoyed bowling in Madison, Moms Rock-n-It painted flower pots, and our Pillars of Success Safety Resource Fair with Safe Kids WI welcomed over 12 vendors. Teen Club and playgroups celebrated Mother’s Day, while horse therapy with Nelle and Magic brought smiles on May 17. Adults enjoyed a movie and dinner night, and we wrapped up the month with a sensory-friendly adventure at Urban Air for our 7–12-year-old playgroup. What a fantastic month of connection, learning, and fun!

Southeastern WI

During May 2026, DSAW families in SE WI and KRW enjoyed a whole range of exciting experiences.

At the beginning of May, 50+ people turned out to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the DSAW Program Center’s gym and had a blast with piñatas, a taco and nacho bar, music, and Bingo!

Mid-May, families joined adult participants from Community Connections for an evening of hilarity at Milwaukee Comedy Sportz. They also opened their minds to the wonders of the night sky during the UWM Manfred Olsen Planetarium breath-taking and informative presentation on the Solar System.

The month’s events wrapped up with roller derby rowdiness where families again joined adult participants from Community Connections for an epic matchup between the BrewCity Bruisers and Steel City, and concluded with the mellower tones of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Sensory Friendly Concert.

What a wonderful May!
