August was packed with summer fun, connection, and community across DSAW! Chapters throughout the state brought families together for pool parties, picnics, park meetups, sailing, camping, fishing, sporting events, inclusive recreation, family outings, educational opportunities, and plenty of time spent with friends. Our communities also came together to give back, volunteer, and support DSAW through fundraisers and special events—including an incredible milestone celebration at the 30th Annual Pip & Homer Golf Classic. From making memories outdoors to trying something new and simply enjoying time together, August was a wonderful way to wrap up summer. We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make these opportunities possible and now we’re excited to head into fall and Awareness Walk season! 💙💛

DSAW-SC August Recap
DSAW-SC August 2026: A Month Full of Connection, Adventure & Community 💙
August was an incredible month for DSAW-SC, filled with opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and related disabilities, siblings, parents, and families to connect, learn, explore, and make memories together!
We kicked off the month with an unforgettable overnight camping weekend with Soul to Summit at Yellowstone Lake Park, followed by a special Mom & Me day at Oakstone in Cottage Grove. Families enjoyed a pool party and picnic in Lodi, while The CREW gathered at Culver’s in Edgerton for food, friendship, and fun. We also had opportunities to learn and grow through Improving Communications with Sign Language at Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville and connected over dinner at our Parents of Rock gathering in Milton.
August also brought plenty of opportunities to explore the community, including a Special Olympics resource fair, Sibshop at the Sun Prairie Aquatic Center, an afternoon at Platteville’s Inclusive Park and Picnic, and Critter Connections at Henry Vilas Zoo, followed by a family picnic. We got active with paddling at Lake Wingra and gathered for our beloved end-of-summer beach and picnic at Lake Ripley in Cambridge.
And what better way to wrap up a busy month than with a sensory-friendly playdate at Urban Air! 💙

We kicked off the month with a little friendly competition at Swing Time Mini Golf! ⛳️🏌️♀️ Families came together to putt, laugh, cheer each other on, and—let’s be honest—show off those very serious mini-golf skills. 😎
🏆 Celebrating 30 Years of the Pip & Homer Golf Classic!
August brought a BIG celebration as we marked the 30th Anniversary of the Pip & Homer Golf Classic! ⛳️🎉
And what better way to celebrate three decades of an incredible event than by making an incredible impact?
💰 More than $100,000 was raised in support of DSAW! 💙💛
A HUGE thank-you goes out to everyone who made this milestone possible—golfers, sponsors, volunteers, donors, committee members, staff, and everyone who helped make the day so special.

🎡 DSAW at the Wisconsin State Fair
DSAW families enjoyed a day of classic State Fair fun—from tasty treats and midway adventures to exploring everything the fair has to offer. 🎡🐄🍦

🎣 Reel Fun on Pewaukee Lake with Fishing for the Heart
DSAW teamed up with Fishing for the Heart for a fantastic fishing expedition on Pewaukee Lake. Families enjoyed time out on the lake, learning, fishing, relaxing, and making memories together.
There may have been fish stories involved… and for once, ALL of them were completely accurate. YES, in fact, a participant caught a 38″ Northern Pike!🐟🎣🚤
A huge thank-you to Fishing for the Heart and all of the amazing volunteers who helped make this special day on the water possible!
