Virtual Skills Training Academy: Connections

NEW Virtual Skills Training Academy

DSAW is offering a NEW Virtual Skills Training Academy! This virtual course can be taken on its own or supplemented with the in-person Skills Training Academy that will be hosted at DSAW’s State Headquarters in West Allis. DSAW will be implementing curriculum developed by the Center for Independent Futures out of Evanston, IL. The Skills Training Academy will support individuals with disabilities to build needed skills in 8 key areas and to achieve their dreams.

Virtual Skills Training Academy runs from June 14th through August 27th.

There are two virtual offerings that run at different times on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We offer Connections from 11am-12pm and Advocating for Yourself from 3pm-4pm. You can sign up for both or one or the other.

Connections

Tuesday/Thursday 11 AM - 12 PM

In this class, participants will understand the importance of family, friends, and community members in their daily lives. Instruction will be highlighting the qualities of healthy relationships while learning how to develop and maintain friendships. Participants will work on safe connections by identifying what they can do when their personal space is invaded, make a list of and utilize emergency contacts, and explore safe social media communications. Participants will also identify activities that are fun and meaningful to them, think about how they engage in those activities, and explore expansion.
